For example, eating healthier could a commitment to set a caloric intake limit or set an intermittent daily fasting period. Exercising could be a goal to run a 5k under 30 minutes. Spending time with your family could be committing to a family vacation for 1 full week.

How to follow up after an interview

Congratulations! You applied for the job, passed the phone screening and have just completed the face to face interview.

It feels like you have really accomplished something; then a few days pass…then a week. Now it’s been 2 weeks. You thought the interview went well and that you had nailed it. But you haven’t heard a damn thing in 15 days now.

What is the protocol? Should you call? Should you wait another week? Maybe you should have already called a week ago? Perhaps an e-mail? What if I could tell you that there is a way that you can avoid some of this uncertainty and get a read on if you are a strong candidate or not? And it can be accomplished by asking one question at the end of the interview:

How to make yourself hireable. The single best trait that will get you hired.

What do you think the number one quality is that quality employers look for in a candidate? Is it experience? Is it “checking the boxes?” Maybe it’s educational background? I’ll set the stage because this sort of scenario is endemic in our times. The dreaded over-promise followed by the under-delivery. You have completed what in your mind was a very positive and confidence boosting interview. You feel like you have it in the bag and it is Friday afternoon. The Hiring Manager (HM) has told you they will get back to you on Monday.

You spend the weekend very upbeat, maybe celebrate with friends. You got this!

Then sure enough Monday passes and you wake up invigorated and anxiously make sure your phone is charged at 100% all day just in case it doesn’t decide to magically drain itself and die when the call comes. Your job is calling, you know it!

Working with Recruiters – The Good, The Bad and The Shady

My son is a senior in High School. Every day the mailbox is full of postcards, brochures and promotions from colleges from all around the country. Some of these colleges I have never even heard of and others I only know from watching College Football or Basketball. He has his choice down to about 4 schools that we are going to visit later next month.
